Increasing Violence In A Post-Bailout Economy

The line “When it was all over, 14 were dead.” paralyzed me as I stood in front the TV to find out WTF.

Engineer Jiverly Wong of Endicott Interconnect Technologies was apparently recently laid off like so many others in this country and went columbine on innocent victims at the American Civic Association in Binghamton, NY.  He worked for a high tech electronics company, which is quite chilling since I too work for corporate and can’t imagine what dire straits any of my other corporate colleagues would be enduring to randomly murder so many people after losing their job.

Another One
Just yesterday, I saw surveillance footage of a man attempting to rob a grocery/pharmacy type establishment at gunpoint with his young daughter by his side. This was not the stereotype of a thug. He seemed like “Joe the Plumber” and very calmly explained to the cashier (whom I’m sure was freaking out at gunpoint) that he was just laid off the day before and needed money and supplies for his family.

I know things always get worse before they get better, but damn! 20 people were just laid off from a software company I used to work for, so it’s unnerving with this much uncertainty. Random passers by on the streets of New York City now look very different to me, as I’m sure I to them. If I could text Obama on his blackberry or Twitter right now, I would ask:

How much more worse, exactly, is it going to get before it gets better?RT me back – @snowqueen297
